Addiction Recovery Support for Women
Working with someone who understands the issues faced when you have family members with addiction issues is a strength of Julie’s and what sets her apart. In 2017 she met the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. In fact, she became engaged to be married to him. But, he was an alcoholic. And he wasn’t interested or ready for sobriety. After lots of begging, pleading and yelling and crying she called off the wedding (after invitations had been sent out) which started her on the best healing journey she had no idea she needed to take.
“The best healing journey I had no idea I needed to take”. Julie has said those words hundreds of times over the years. She was fortunate enough to have a drug and alcohol treatment center attached to her church and they offered a women’s support group for women who have family members with addiction issues and for women who are getting free from addiction. For the first two years, Julie was only an attendee of the group. For the next five years she co-facilitated the group. As a life coach Minneapolis MN, the experience she gained from this women’s support group was absolutely invaluable!
Before Julie started her new journey as a life coach Minneapolis MN, she worked with women in the Women of Worth (WOW) support group through Living Free Recovery Services on an informal, volunteer basis. The support group met weekly in person and was a safe space for the women in attendance. “What is said in group, stays in group”. It was vitally important that the women who attended the group knew it was a safe space, but, more importantly, that it was a place to be vulnerable. To be with other women who understood what they were going through. The group followed a curriculum, usually a book and study guide written by a female author having to do with addiction issues. The group size varied from 3 or 4 to as many as 17 or 18. Ideally, the groups that were 6-8 people were the best. With a group of 7 women, everyone was able to share the challenges they were facing that week and there was time to do “the homework” in the study guide. Julie quickly learned that the group was always exactly what it was supposed to, and needed, to be. Sometimes the entire group time was spent talking and doing the group “check in”. Other times, if a particular chapter was so long, the group time was spent on homework. Other times, it was an even mix of check ins and book discussion.
All of these experiences with the WOW group helped Julie when she became a life coach Minneapolis MN. It gave her a great perspective on a whole spectrum of issues that women with family members in addiction face. Julie also realized that she had been “informally” life coaching for this group for years. Now as a life coach Minneapolis MN, she has the opportunity to help her clients take the next step in healing, self-exploration and change.
With COVID came unforeseen challenges that actually became great learning opportunities. Because the group could not meet in person, but the need to meet was still present, a shift was made for the group to meet via Zoom. Julie was very surprised at how easily the group adjusted to meeting via Zoom. An adding bonus was that now, because of Zoom, the group could include women who lived in other cities, meet regardless of weather conditions or because some women did not want to drive at night.
Julie realized that the main reason the group thrived when it switched to Zoom was because the group had already established tight bonds that allowed for vulnerability and sharing. It was such a blessing to have the opportunity to learn just what a Zoom support group was all about. Now as a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie is fully open to recreating a Zoom support group for women with family members in addition. Being a life coach Minneapolis MN allows Julie to bring specific life coaching tools like Inner Critic, Assumptions, Limiting Beliefs, the Wheel of Life, Core Motivations and Future Self into the group coaching space.
The best healing journey she had no idea she needed to take. Again, that’s how Julie sums up her journey from support group co-facilitating volunteer to life coach Minneapolis MN. Being able to help her clients, either individually or in a group setting, really look at themselves and explore their long held beliefs, about themselves and their family, in order to implement change for their own healing journey is why Julie is now a life coach Minneapolis MN.
Julie has two different options to serve this group.
- Individual Coaching sessions via Zoom- 50 minutes long
- Group Coaching sessions via Zoom- 50 minutes long
Either option allows for tremendous healing and break through. It really depends on the work the client is willing to do.
Here are a few of the tools that Julie as a Life Coach Minneapolis MN will use in the coaching session:
Future Self: This can be a very insightful tool. Life coach Minneapolis MN takes the client through an exercise in which the client gets to “meet” their future self. The client determine how far in the future they go; usually 1 to 5 years.
Inner Critic: This tool is used to help a client identify the negative voice inside their head that can rule their life. The goal of the Inner Critic tool is to help a client create new ground rules in which they interact with that negative voice inside them.
Boundaries: Boundaries are healthy. However, people who are not used to having boundaries often react negatively. That’s why Julie as a life coach Minneapolis MN help her clients understand what a boundary is and what is it not. A boundary is someone telling another person what they will and will not accept in their life. It is not someone telling another person how to live their life.
Realtor Life Coaching
Realtors are very passionate about helping their clients with the most important purchase of their life. . . .a new home. To be a Realtor is to be part real estate agent, part therapist, part marriage counselor and part pastor/priest. Realtors wear a lot of hats. And you give a lot of yourself in each and every transaction. That takes a toll on you. Mentally, emotionally and even physically. It’s no wonder that eight out of ten Realtors have quit the business before the start of their third year.
As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie is also passionate about coming alongside her clients to help them rediscover their passion and purpose in real estate. Why is this important?
What is the biggest misconception about Life Coaching for Realtors? That life coaching is exactly the same as productivity coaching. Now, does life coaching play a part in productivity coaching? Yes. But Life Coaching is vastly different from productivity coaching. A productivity coach is going to hold a Realtor accountable regarding the activity level of specific tasks they should be doing to increase or grow their business. Tasks like making cold calls, doing open houses and posting on social media. A life coach is going to explore why a Realtor procrastinates or the negative self talk that they have used their whole life. A life coach Minneapolis MN works with their clients to look inward and uncover why they do what they have always done.
Julie, a life coach Minneapolis MN, became a full time Realtor in 2008 just as the market was crashing. She was part of the fourth largest bank foreclosure team in Minneapolis and St. Paul. She was a buyer’s agent for the bank foreclosure team. The team had, on average at any one time, 150 foreclosure listings! As a buyer’s agent her phone started ringing at 6am and, sometimes, did not stop ringing until midnight. Her friends said they did not see her for the first two years she was in the business! All that to say that she has experienced several real estate markets over the years.
Julie has said that “you have to do real estate to know how to do real estate”. Well, she was very fortunate to do a lot of real estate because of the changing markets she was a part of.
After four years on the bank foreclosure team, Julie left the team to be a solo agent. She decided to start working with homeowners who were facing a short sale. She would call homeowners every evening from 6-8pm to explain the short sale process with a goal of listing and selling that home and getting the homeowner out from under their debt. She could tell every homeowner that “life is going to be good again. Please do not put your head in the sand. Let me help you”. She was able to help 43 homeowners via short sale her first year. Even today when discussing this part of her career, her passion for those homeowner she was able to help, comes through. As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie brings this same level of passion.
While part of the bank foreclosure team, Julie worked with a lot of investors and rehabbers. She found she really enjoyed the rehab process and got to be part of many, many beautiful restorations. As the market got better in 2012-18, Julie worked with a custom home builder doing new construction in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs . She also really enjoyed that entire process.
Julie was so fortunate to gain a lot of positive experience from all these different aspects of real estate. But, she also was able to experience the challenges of real estate. Primarily, the biggest challenge was lack of Boundaries. Most Realtors believe that they have to run their business from one fire to the next. It does not matter if they have something personal planned (think family birthday party). If their client wants to see a house during the time that that family event is planned, most Realtors Julie knows (including herself) would sacrifice the family event and would show the house to their client.
Once Julie became a Life Coach Minneapolis MN, she saw this as a glaring need in the Realtor community. Boundaries are wonderful and healthy. Once Julie learned about how to implement Boundaries in her life and, more importantly, in her real estate business, she found her life got a lot better. If a client called and wanted to schedule time with her to see a house or have a listing appointment, she would let her clients know if she was available. If she was not available, she gave the clients two or three options to get on her calendar. Amazingly, her clients rarely had to have the appointment time they first suggested. Julie also stopped answering email and answering her business phone after 6pm. She discovered freedom in Boundaries!
When Julie became a life coach Minneapolis MN, she put all the knowledge she’d gained over the years to work. Her focus now is to help Realtors rediscover their passions and purpose by looking inward. She helps her clients with wrong assumptions, limiting beliefs, procrastination, systems for organization and the Inner Critic.
As a Life Coach Minneapolis MN, Julie helps Realtors rediscover their passion and be their very best for their clients. Realtors have shared with Julie that they want to find their purpose in life and real estate again. Even successful Realtors need a purpose. In fact, Julie would tell you that life coaching can be a main reason why life’s purpose can be rediscovered. As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie knows she has something to share with Realtors to help them get back their passion and purpose. Good Seeds Life Coaching was born from this!
Another area of need Julie is aware of as a life coach Minneapolis MN is the need for systems in a Realtor’s business. So many Realtors Julie speaks with talk about how they are exhausted. They give and give and give until they have nothing left to give. This can be attributed to a lack of systems in their business. Lack of systems means the Realtor is recreating the wheel over and over and over each time they have a new client or new transaction. Julie helps Realtors put systems in place in their business to keep them focused and on track. Automation is a great way to get the mundane tasks that need to be done, done, without sacrificing the quality of personalized service. Lack of systems can cause a great deal of stress. No one likes going from one fire to the next every single day. Julie helps Realtors put systems in place to stop fires, proactively, before they start. Realtors see the results quickly when systems are in place: they get their passion and purpose back!
As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie helps Realtors by doing individual 50 minute sessions via Zoom.
Realtor Group Coaching Sessions
Have you ever been a part of a support group, book club or sports team? Most people have. Why? Because people want to belong to something. They want to know they are not the only one going through a specific issue. When people are part of a great group, they can lean on others and learn from those who have overcome what they are currently facing. Group life coaching for Realtors serves this purpose. Realtors are amazing people. They are passionate about helping their clients with one of the most important life events there is. . . . buying and/or selling a home.
But, just like a Super Bowl winning football team, Realtors sometimes need people to come alongside them. And, unlike a Super Bowl winning football team, real estate can be a lonely business. Sometimes it feels like you are on an island. When Julie became a life coach Minneapolis MN, she knew she wanted to create a safe online group session space for Realtors to share and grow and learn from other successful Realtors.
Sometimes feeling stuck, adrift, passionless or just plain lost is a sign that what worked in the past is not working now. As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie discovered that’s the power of group life coaching. It’s helping people rediscover their passion, get unstuck and be part of a productive community. What makes someone a great Realtor? Usually it’s the ability to put out multiple fires, all day, everyday. All. Day. Every. Day. Real estate can be very stressful. You have 3 clients that want to see houses all at the same time, you have a listing that might, or might not, get through inspection, one of your houses didn’t appraise and there’s a cloud on title on your listing that’s closing next week. Oh, and your family has planned a vacation next weekend at the cabin. During the busiest month of the year. How do you handle that without losing your mind? Well, thank you for asking. Most Realtors struggle with this. They only know this side of the business. The one where everything is hard or a struggle and the feeling of isolation grows everyday.
But, what if there are other Realtors out there that have overcome some of the same issues that you are facing in your business? What if they are clear across the country? Have you ever thought that talking with other Realtors about the issues faced in real estate today might be helpful, but you did not really want your team or office to know? That is more common than one would think.
Being a Realtor can seem like being on a lonely, isolated island. No one is coming to help and no one can save you. But, one of the best parts of life coaching is making a client aware that they have the power to make a change. That’s the power of life coaching and as a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie has developed a group life coaching program for agents all across the country.
Before Julie became a full time Realtor as the market was crashing in 2008, She came from the corporate world where she was an operations manager. Her degree is in business management and she has always wanted to develop her team members to be the best they could be. She was very fortunate to have a great mentor at her first “real” job out of college. Her mentor taught her that “when your team is doing well, you praise them. When things are not going well, you stuck it up, because you are ultimately responsible for them”. Julie has never forgotten that. And it’s from that mindset that she developed her group coaching sessions.
Julie has a broad base of real estate experience from REO/bank foreclosures, short sales, rehabs, new construction and traditional real estate. Through all of her years in real estate she did not realize that there could be a better way. She looked around her mid size office and saw every other successful Realtor struggling (at times) with self doubt, negative self talk, lack of boundaries and lack of systems. Most agents just ran themselves ragged putting out fires. Nothing ever really changed to the better. Sure, they might experience a relatively stress free transaction, but, for the most part, every transaction was the same. As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie knew she could help.
If you continue to do the same things, you will continue to get the same results. Many Realtors live by this mindset simply because this is what the other Realtors in their office do. This is what the broker taught them to do. And it’s worked in the past. But, it’s just not working now.
When Julie became a life coach Minneapolis MN she knew she wanted to create a group coaching session via zoom to help as many Realtors realize and learn that there is a new way to do real estate by creating a safe space where Realtors share with each other what’s working and what’s not. Surprisingly, or not, most people, not just Realtors, have the same issues.
People want to feel like they are connected to, part of and valued as a member of a group. Julie brings her years of experience as a co-facilitator of a women’s support group for women who have family members dealing with addiction to her Realtor group life coaching sessions. Julie knows how fulfilling it is for the group participants to experience true community through trust and the ability to be vulnerable. Participants that are willing to explore why and how they do the things they do and to do the work to make sustainable changes for the better benefit greatly from group life coaching.
Julie has weekly 90 minute group coaching sessions via Zoom. This gives the participants time to discuss issues they may be facing with the group.and then there is a topic of discussion that the participants have worked on from the prior week (the homework). As a life coach Minneapolis MN, Julie firmly believes in the power of group life coaching!
